Lemon Turmeric Ginger Fenugreek and Caraway Drink

Ayurvedic digestive support to kick-start your day

ginger turmeric drink

Your gut loving morning cup of sunshine

This anti-inflammatory recipe came from a Holistic GP who believes in combining conventional medicine with natural/ holistic/ mind and body medicine.  If you can find a Dr like this who encourages natural health and food as medicine, hold onto them!

This recipe is ideally suited to somebody with Crohn’s, IBS, Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Type 2 Diabetes, High Blood Pressure, High Cholesterol, High Triglycerides, or those who simply want to start their day with a health promoting drink.

Caraway Seeds have potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that may support those with IBS. Getting enough antioxidants has also been linked to immune health, a reduction in your risk of heart disease, atherosclerosis (plaque buildup in your arteries), and high blood pressure.

Fenugreek Seeds stimulates digestion and soothes the mucous membranes of the digestive tract.  They are also anti-inflammatory and work well to reduce glycaemic load.

Ginger is an aromatic digestive that can improve digestion, reduce nausea, stimulate circulation and reduce bloating.

Turmeric has been a Naturopathic star over the past decade and there’s good reason for it.  Not only does it provide anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant actions, it supports the liver to detoxify, and reduces blood cholesterol and lipids.  The active constituent Curcumin has been featured in many studies to reduce pain and inflammation through the body.  Here we use it in the whole-food form, where all constituents can work together as nature intended.

Lemon Juice contains high amounts of Vitamin C which is yet another anti-oxidant, and will protect the body’s cells from free radical damage, and also stimulates digestion.

Ideally use organic seeds, roots and citrus.  Personally I love to support local and purchase ingredients from the lovely ladies at Ironwood Cottage, 4th Avenue, Sandgate.

Caution: those with gallstones, peptic ulceration and those on Warfarin need to use caution with some of these ingredients.  Always discuss your unique situation with a qualified Herbalist or Naturopath.
